Britain Prepared to Utilize Frozen Russian Assets to Finance the Ukrainian Defense

The British government is ready to advance with employing the entire amount of immobilized Russia's funds to bolster the Ukrainian defense operations, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a shared declaration, the heads of state of the Britain, the French Republic, and Germany emphasized that this unified step would heighten pressure on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and compel the Russian Federation to engage in negotiations.

They clarified that the decision would be executed in tight collaboration with the United States.

United Kingdom restrictions have frozen more than £25bn of Russia's assets since the Russian government initiated its widespread offensive against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. But, previously, funds provided to Ukraine using Russian funds had solely been drawn from earnings and returns generated on them.

Sir Keir told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were in agreement in their desire to push forward toward employing the total worth of the immobilized Russia's state assets to conclude the conflict.

He stated that more restrictions over the next period would increase the strain on the Russian government.

This statement comes after EU officials met in the Danish capital recently to debate utilizing seized Russia's assets for a 140-billion-euro financial aid to Ukraine.

Recently, American leader Donald Trump called on Group of Seven partners to take or otherwise use seized Russian assets, as reported by news outlets.

The value of immobilized Russia's assets in the Europe is estimated to be nearly €211bn.

Russia launched extensive missile and drone strikes across the Ukrainian territory on recently, causing blackouts in many areas of Kyiv, the city, and eight other regions.

Several persons were fatally injured and no fewer than 20 people were hurt in the strike, the Ukrainian government reported.

In a post on social media after the strike, Zelensky wrote that the strategic strike aimed at civilian and energy infrastructure.

"What's needed is not empty words but decisive action - from the America, EU, and the G7 - in delivering anti-aircraft weapons and implementing restrictions," he emphasized.

"All penalty impositions undermines Russia's war machine," Zelensky noted, in a different message.

Also on Friday, Zelensky informed the press he would urge Sir Keir to join the PURL scheme, under which Nato countries acquire arms from the America to provide to the Ukrainian forces.

While applauding the United Kingdom's strong support for Kyiv, he remarked it should indicate firmly that it would engage in the initiative, as well as enforce more measures on Moscow.
