New information has come to light regarding the tragic demises of renowned director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were discovered at their Los Angeles home property on Sunday.
According to a report referencing a family associate, a therapist scheduled for an appointment was the first to notice something was wrong after being unable to gain access the residence. The practitioner then reached out to the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides nearby.
After gaining access to the residence, Romy found her father's body. Reports state she then fled the house in anguish, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. Her roommate who had accompanied her then dialed 911. Following this, paramedics located Michele Singer Reiner's body.
The police have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of first-degree murder, along with the charge related to a weapon, said to be a knife. He is currently detained and is ineligible for bail.
The anonymous source questioned several previously reported details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner told emergency responders that her brother Nick resided in a guesthouse on the grounds, she did not point to him as a person of interest at that moment.
The source also disputed circulated claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "worried" about Nick's behavior in the weeks leading up to the incident. Rather the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement also extends to descriptions of reportedly "erratic" conduct by Nick at a gathering thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the bodies were found. While the source said they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they said that reports of a "heated argument" between the two were untrue.
According to law enforcement officials, the coroner had yet to determine as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Preliminary media reports indicated the condition of their bodies implied they had been deceased for a period of time.
Nick Reiner was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, roughly 15 miles from the scene. He was set to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, indicated his client had not been medically cleared and would not appear until Wednesday at the earliest.
