Iran Reports Assault on US Base in Bahrain, During Widespread Military Operations.

Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing offensive against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is not yet known and the United States has remained silent.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted debris fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
