Citizens have gathered across the country to mark two years since the Hamas-initiated offensive on October 7th, 2023, as discussions advanced in Egypt over a conclusion to the conflict in Gaza.
The assault resulted in over 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely most fatal day for Jews since the World War II.
Israel answered by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are considered reliable by the United Nations and other global organizations.
"The violent enemies have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the leader stated on that day.
He also vowed to "realize all the goals of the war: the return of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will never again pose a risk to Israel".
The government authorities postponed formal remembrance events until 16 October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still took place throughout the country on that day.
A remembrance service for the relatives of people killed in the Hamas assault was conducted in the coastal city. Put together by the affected families, it was televised throughout Israeli television channels.
A period earlier, a minute's silence was observed throughout the country.
At the same time, Israeli and Hamas delegations gathered in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of mediated discussions to review the terms of the plan.
A high-ranking representative familiar with the negotiations said that an evening round of negotiations commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.
The source said the earlier meeting finished without significant progress, amid disagreements over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not restart combat after the initial stage of the agreement.
He noted that the negotiations are "difficult and have yet to achieve any real breakthrough," but mentioned that intermediaries are striving to close the disparities between the both parties.
In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square earlier, young Hagar - whose brother survived the attack on the outdoor event, where 378 people were lost their lives and numerous more were captured by Hamas gunmen - explained: "No place feels like home any longer and until every captive return none of us will be secure."
"Once we see everyone home once more, we can relax once more. Then we can begin to recover," she concluded.
Near the prime minister's official dwelling in the capital, people gathered to show their solidarity for the families of the captives. Israel reports 48 stay in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be living.
Protester one woman explained: "It's necessary do any agreement needed for the hostages to come back home. But we truly desire guarantees that we will be safe."
Surveys now regularly indicate that around seventy percent of the population prefer the conflict to conclude in return for the freedom of the hostages.
At the location of the gathering, grieving people assembled to remember the victims.
From there, the sound of military attacks and shelling could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers said the severe Israeli shelling persisted.
In Gaza City, bombardments were reported in the dawn of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, area and zone areas and in the east side area of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwest.
"When the dusk arrives, the fear comes with it," displaced urban resident a mother, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, explained.
"We are terrified of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are lying together, embracing, particularly my youngest child who rests his head on me all night."
"Continuously we monitor the news to see developments. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be achieved and that the war will resume to us."
The medical facility in Gaza City reported it had received the remains of several people by the afternoon, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.
Another medical facility in the southern urban center of the city reported another two fatalities had been brought there. An individual was killed by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get help to the south region, health workers reported.
