Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the American major.
Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually separating with former coach his previous coach.
Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is the player's maiden championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court after spring of the previous year.
The win also indicates he has secured 21 victories at 21 distinct competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.
"This victory is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six finals, comprising in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's defensive play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to wonder if his skill to perform at the elite level was over.
However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.
The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.
Both players swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to push for a decider.
Moutet defended 4 early break points in a tight third set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.
Suitably, he secured the title with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
