Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable changes:
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for gamers looking for alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
