The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
